In Vermont you'll soon be able to check out something new at the library: a free park pass for the day - "Check out the Parks" program. At each of the 182 public libraries, there will be a free park pass for a day. People can sign it out like a book. The goal is to get more people interested in using the state's 52 parks and in getting a season pass. "From our point of view it's really an excellent opportunity to get more people into our parks and we are quite confident that if they can have a good experience or when they have a good experience they will be return customers not just this year but in future seasons as well," Vt. Forest Parks & Rec Commissioner Jason Gibbs said. The passes will be available at public libraries starting at the end of April.

Tuesday, May 26, 2009 the Annual Potluck Dinner Meeting of the Berlin Historical Society will be held at the First Congregational Church of Berlin Parish Hall in Berlin Corner. The potluck dinner will start at 6:00 PM with the speaker program beginning about 7:00.
Our speaker was to have been Esther Swift who was going to give a talk on Berlin. However, she is unable to give her talk at this time so we are going to go to plan “b”. Norbert has generously offered to fill in for Esther and will give a presentation on Berlins old post offices and our historical cemeteries utilizing some of our collection of digital images that are stored on our computer. We thank Norbert for offering to fill in at this late date and we know his presentation will be enjoyed by all who plan to attend.

Cheryl Poor is coordinating plans again for the potluck menu so please contact her to let her know that you are coming and what you will bring. You can telephone her at 802-223-5306 or e-mail her at poorcheryl@myfairpoint.net.

Lets make this a good turnout. Spread the word and bring friends with you. See you there. - Richard Turner, Secretary
