Thinking of putting your home on the market this spring? One of our daughters and her family are house hunting in the U-32 district. Ideally a home with 3 or 4 bedrooms and a few acres of land including open space around the home to garden and have berry bushes and some fruit trees. Would prefer well water and also a garage. A shed or barn would be great. Not on a main busy route.  Although not necessary, an in-law apt could be a bonus for one of the siblings!     - Corinne

I would highly recommend the Matsuri '15 festival on Sunday, April 19th to anybody with an interest in the Japanese Culture.  Our family has attended a few times and it's really a wonderful event.  See below for a few more details.

NOTICE REGARDING CROSSTOWN ROAD
The plan is to have Crosstown Road closed to through traffic WHEN IT BECOMES NECESSARY during mud season as it was last year.
Loads of sand will be put down to literally block the road.  This will be about .75 miles up from the Riverton side.  When the signs go up saying it is closed to thru traffic, please believe them even though you can't see barricade at that point.
As of the date on this news, the road is still open (and it's snowing as I write this) but we can all hope that warm weather is coming.

MONTESSORI SCHOOL MAY BE LEAVING BERLIN
I read that the Montessori School of Central Vermont in Berlin is looking to purchase and renovate the vacant Knights of Columbus building in Barre Town.  Currently they're located on US Route 2 in Berlin and have 36 children enrolled in preschool — ages 3 to 6 — and 17 in first through fifth grades.  Apparently the plan is to expand the preschool program and add a toddler program, which would also mean increasing their staff.

APRIL 1ST DEADLINE - NO FOOLING
All dogs need to be licensed by April 1st.  THe fee for dogs who are spayed or neutered is $8 and if they're not it's $12.  There must be a current rabies vaccination certificate on file to license.  Either stop by the Town Clerk's office between 8:30am and 3:30pm Monday - Thursday or this can also be taken care of by mail.  The fees are increased as of April 2nd.

FROM THE
MONTPELIER SENIOR ACTIVITY CENTER (for seniors age 50+)
Thanks, community partners
Thank you to voters in the towns of
Berlin, Calais, East Montpelier, Middlesex, Moretown (new) and Worcester for your support of the Montpelier Senior Activity Center at town meeting. In the new fiscal year, seniors (age 50 plus) from these supporting towns will enjoy lower membership dues than non-supporting towns as well as advance registration privileges for our several dozen quarterly classes. Affordable fees and financial aid are available to all, regardless of town of residence. As always, all seniors are welcome at the center regardless of membership. We offer over 30 hours of free programming each week as well as on-site lunches Tuesday and Friday, and many programs are open to mixed-age groups. We always welcome suggestions for new programming, including off-site in supporting towns.
We appreciate voters’ recognition of the important role that all the area senior centers and senior meal sites play in helping to maximize the physical and mental health of residents, to provide opportunities for socialization, volunteering and lifelong learning, and to serve as gateways to myriad valuable services and community resources. We are grateful to all the community partners and volunteers from these six towns (and Northfield) for their help in collecting petition signatures, getting the word out, and standing up to speak at town meeting. As a department of the city of
Montpelier, we look forward to serving the public into the coming year, and welcome all to visit us at 58 Barre St., learn more about MSAC on the web at www.montpelier-vt.org/msac, or call us at 223-2518.

RE-EVALUATING DRIVERS
Do you know an older driver that you believe should be re-evaluated?  If you wouldn't want your child to ride with the person because of concerns about their driving, should they still be behind the wheel?  Check out this link: http://ow.ly/KPi0F
If appropriate evaluations and recommendations have been made and the senior driver continues to refuse handing over the keys, you may make a request to the DMV asking for a re-examination of the driver. You may send a written request or an email to the attention of the DMV Commissioners Office.
Your request must include:
Driver's name
Driver's date of birth
Driver's address
Your name
Your contact information (mailing address and phone number)
Your relationship to the driver
Reason for wanting a re-examination of the driver (this must be specific and should include details of any personal observations)
